Cameroon reopens Far North Nigeria border as Boko Haram retreats

Bisong Etahoben, an investigative journalist in Cameroon, confirmed this recent development. According to Amnesty International, Cameroon closed the border after at least 200 attacks by Boko Haram killed hundreds of people. However, the government has officially reopened the Far North border as the war against Boko Haram is considered 'partially' won. "At this stage in the crisis, we are confident to declare that the insecurity caused by Boko Haram is firmly under control. The efforts of defense and security forces, as well as the remarkable contributions by self- defense groups, have paid off enough to permit the reopening of the closed markets and the land border with Nigeria. Schools will also resume teaching when the new academic year starts in September" said a Govt spokesperson. Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

Tinubu is no god – Melaye

The All Progressives Congress member representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, on Thursday explained that he insulted Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during an executive session at the Senate after she referred to him as a thug. Melaye, however, said he was willing to apologise if he had wronged any individual in the matter. "If there are instances that I am not a super human being, if there are instances where as a human being I have reacted negatively I am also ready to be apologetic about it. But in this particular instance, I have never mentioned anybody's name, I never even used insolent languages. Reacting to the statement purportedly made by Remi Tinubu's husband and leader of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bola Tinubu on his political career, Melaye said the APC leader is no god and cannot determine his political career. "I will continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, I will continue to be a voice to the

Oldest Egyptian papyrus writing displayed first time ever

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is showcasing for the first time the earliest writing from ancient Egypt found on papyrus, detailing work on the Great Pyramid of Giza, antiquities officials said Thursday. The papyri were discovered near Wadi el-Jarf port, 25 kilometres (15 miles) south of the Gulf of Suez town of Zafarana, the antiquities ministry said. The find by a French-Egyptian team unearths papers telling of the daily lives of port workers who transported huge limestone blocks to Cairo during King Khufu's rule to build the Great Pyramid, intended to be his burial structure. One document was a "diary by government official Merer (the beloved) with statistics and administrative details" of his work, said Sayed Mahfouz, who co- led the 2013 discovery. Merer led a team of around 40, according to the ministry. The documents also list revenues transferred from various Egyptian provinces to feed pyramid builders and pay their wages, Mahfouz said. Professor Wole Soyinka Speaks About Nigeria’s Break-Up

Nigerian Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has lent his voice to the growing calls for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation, saying the sovereignty of the nation is negotiable. On Tuesday, Soyinka said de-centralisation of the nation would ensure healthy rivalry among the component units. The laureate said it was wrong for previous administrations in the country to say that Nigeria's sovereignty was non-negotiable, submitting that the position was antithetical to development. Soyinka added, "I am on the side of those who say we must do everything to avoid disintegration. That language I understand. I don't understand (ex President Olusegun) Obasanjo's language. I don't understand (President Muhammadu) Buhari's language and all their predecessors, saying the sovereignty of this nation is non- negotiable. It's bloody well negotiable and we had better negotiate it. We better negotiate it, not even at meetings, not at conferences, but everyday in our

I didn’t steal Majek Fashek’s song – Timi Dakolo

Music star Timi Dakolo has denied the claim that he stole veteran artist Majek Fashek's song. Majek Fashek had told Saturday Beats recently that Dakolo stole his evergreen hit, Send Down the Rain. "He broke the rules of copyright. He is a thief because in music business, he must take permission before he works on someone's song," Fashek had said. "That is why we have COSON. I did not give anyone the right to do anything with my song." But Dakolo, who had done a remix of the song in 2013, said he got permission for that. "My people, it saddens me to see such. I always try to do things rightly and lawfully," Dakolo, who is also a judge on The Voice Nigeria, said in an Instagram post. "I paid his manager to remake the song, I got my invoice, I even mentioned to him during our rehearsals at the Headies. So, honestly I don't understand this write-up. "Oga Majek Fashek. I respect and love you. Your voice gives life to
