CJN OFFICE APPOINTMENT

There is no let-up in the controversy trailing  the appointment of Justice Samuel Onnoghen as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari. Not a few stakeholders in the judiciary, including one-time Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Wole Olanipekun, SAN, have joined the discourse after the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommendation. The latest entrant, Prof ITSE SAGAY, SAN, disagrees with Olanipekun's view on the matter. The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) believes there is no law barring the President from turning down the NJC recommendation THERE has been much frenzy, furor and hysteria over the appointment of the Hon Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), rather than the substantive CJN. The debate has taken every dimension possible, including accusing the Federal Government of trying to suppress the right of one part of the country in favour of another. This debate has generated a lot of

N13.2B PENSION CONTRIBUTION REMITS- FED GOVT

The Federal Government has released N10.3 billion for payment of pension contributions to pensioners, who retired in November and December 2015. The government also released N2.9 billion to be paid to other batches of retirees, bringing the  amount released to N13.2 billion. Consequently, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has paid the monies to Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), who have commenced payment to retirees some of who confirmed the receipt of such payments to The Nation. Findings have shown that the last Federal Government retirees  to receive pension after retirement were those who retired in October 2015. This is because retirement benefits payment, which is the last stage of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), has witnessed some setbacks in recent times due to Federal Government's inability to remit pension contributions and pay accrued rights.

Ibrahim Babangida and the Northern governors and they are planning now to remove the Vice President; as we speak

WHAT DOES QURAN TEACH ABOUT SELF DEFENSE-SULEIMAN

Apostle Suleiman, senior pastor of Omega Fire Ministries recently received phone calls twice, alerting him of imminent attack on his church by Fulani herdsmen and orchestrated assassination of his person. Then said he to his aides, in his narrative to his Sunday morning congregation ; "any Fulani herdsmen you see around you or in the church premises, kill him…". This pronouncement went viral on social media and has been termed by many as inciting, unBiblical and deserving of reprimand by the Nigerian authorities. He did not order Christians to kill Muslims. He couldn't have, when he was born a Muslim himself and yet has a sizeable number of Muslims as relations. He couldn't have, when the headquaters of his church is located in Auchi, a town in the Nothern region of Edo state with a large Muslim population, where in fact Christians and their Muslim neighbours have co-existed peacefully for decades. A few days later, officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) t
