NIGERIA HAS FAILED- EX- GOV OBI

A former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has argued that Nigeria as a country has failed, and the present crop of leaders are not doing much to rescue it. The former governor lamented that there are agitations in different parts of the country because the government failed to address issues that would douse such agitations. Even though government says the country is out of recession, Obi argued that this was hard to believe as many Nigerians were still feeling the impact of the economic recession. He said “For me the country has failed, If anybody tells you that Nigeria is doing well, tell them it is a lie. They said that we are out of recession but almost all Nigerians are still feeling greatly the impact of recession”.

Another tweeted: “Fayose for 2019 Presidency. I won’t waste my time voting, I will wait till 2023. There should be better candidates then.” “FAYOSE declares for President. The National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday appealed Nigerians to always participate actively in electoral processes to avoid voter apathy. Mr Sam Olumekun, INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Lagos State, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He reacted to the low turnout of voters during the Eti-Osa Constituency I bye-election in the state. TOM PRICE RESIGNS AS HEALTH SECRETARY FOR USING PRIVATE JETS FOR GOVERNMENT BUSINESS TRIPS

Tom Price resigned as Secretary of Health and Human Services yesterday September 29, 2017, following criticism of his use of private charters and military aircraft for travel. In a series of reports in September 2017, Politico reported that since May 2017, Price had expended more than $1 million of department funds for his own travel on private charter jets and military aircraft. Many of the flights were between cities that are easily accessible by train or car and have frequent, low-cost commercial airline service.   Five Democratic members of Congress requested an inspector general's investigation into Price's use of private aircraft.   Price's use of private planes was legal but was criticized by ethics experts as a misuse of taxpayer funding. Price's spokesperson justified Price's use of private jets as a reasonable precaution, given that Price was once unable to attend an important meeting because a commercial flight was cancelled;  Politico  noted

The early kick-off gave Tottenham a chance to keep in touch with the Premier League leaders and they gle

Manchester City’s Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero runs with the ball during the Group F football match between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, north west England, on September 26, 2017. OLI SCARFF / AFP Manchester City’s defensive resilience and offensive brilliance so far this season face arguably their sternest tests on Saturday against champions Chelsea, with the Premier League leaders without full-back Benjamin Mendy and star striker Sergio Aguero. France full-back Mendy looks set to miss most, if not all, of the rest of the season after undergoing an operation on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. City medical staff say Aguero will be absent for between two to four weeks with a broken rib suffered when a taxi the Argentinian star was travelling in — after attending a concert on his day off — crashed in Amsterdam on Thursday. City will feel both their absences keenly. Mendy has been in fine form for City since his £50 mil

TUCHEL: FORMER DORTMUND BOSS IN TALK WITH BAYERN

Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as coach of Bayern Munich amidst media reports on Saturday that contract negotiations are taking place. According to German daily Bild, the 44-year-old Tuchel is in Munich and negotiating to take over at the Bavarian giants having been sacked by current Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund in May. Tuchel and Dortmund parted ways despite him steering the club to the German Cup title last season, the coach having enjoyed a turbulent relationship with Borussia’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. Bayern’s director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic said on Friday that Munich had “no names, no profiles” of who will replace Ancelotti, fired on Thursday in the wake Bayern’s 3-0 drubbing at Paris Saint-Germain. “We will now collect our information and then make a decision,” said Salihamidzic. LIVERPOOOL READY FOR BENITEZ REUNION

Liverpool are seeking to end a frustrating September on a positive note as they face a reunion with their former manager Rafa Benitez at Newcastle on Sunday. Benitez remains a popular figure at Anfield, having guided Liverpool to the Champions League title with a remarkable victory over AC Milan in 2005, a night remembered fondly at a club who have won just two trophies since then. Jurgen Klopp’s attempts to bring back the good times have yet to pay off, with Liverpool continuing to look dangerous in attack but vulnerable in defence. That was illustrated perfectly during last Saturday’s 3-2 win at Leicester, when Klopp’s team twice led by two goals, but only won in the end thanks to Simon Mignolet’s penalty save from Jamie Vardy. Klopp’s response was to field all four of his main attacking players from the start for the first time on Tuesday at Spartak Moscow in the Champions League. But for once, Liverpool’s forwards did not produce the goods; Philippe Coutinho scored,

EMIR OF KASTINA TELLS PRESIDENT BUHARI TO SIGN PEACE CORPS BILL

The Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman, has declared support for the Peace Corps bill passed by the National Assembly. The bill, which seeks to turn the Peace Corps, a non-government organisation, into a government paramilitary agency, has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians. Proponents see it as an avenue to create jobs for thousands of youth while critics describe as a duplication of functions already being performed by existing agencies and creation of another bureaucracy at a time the country is finding it difficult to pay workers' salaries. The bill was opposed by existing military and security institutions in Nigeria and the Peace Corps leader Dickson Akoh is currently being prosecuted for alleged fraud. Apart from lawmakers, the bill is also supported by some prominent Nigerians including the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, who also asked Mr. Buhari to sign to it. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Katsina emir made a similar call on the president on Thursda

In a new video he posted on the social media, the dreaded Niger Delta advocate, who came into prominence during the President Olusegun Obasanjo regime, and was a bone in the throat of Nigerian authorities prior to the Amnesty Programme that led to the ceasing of hostilities in the oil-rich region, narrated how he was contacted by a top security operative, to co-opt him into the project. His role, according to the video, was to get him to mobilise the "Niger Delta combatants" feared to harbour favourable sentiments for the IPOB and who would fight on the side of the group seeking to break Nigeria, in the case of an outbreak of a war. He must do this, according to him on the pain of arrest and death, should he refuse the offer, because t

5 LESSONS UPCOMING ARTISTES CAN LEARN FROM WIZKID

The race to make it big in the entertainment is indeed an uphill task. Everyone wants to be a one-hit wonder and blow immediately just like Humble smith. Several challenges abound for upcoming artistes especially for those without a record label. Dropping singles every month, collaborating with other artistes on joint tracks, performing for a meager pay at shows/concerts, appealing to streets and radio DJs to play your song, settling the bloggers who will publicize your brand, it’s really a long way to stardom. Wizkid was in those shoes too even though he started early as Lil Prinz at the age of 11, he was in the category of ‘legendary hustlers’ as he was a studio rat together with Siri (remember him in Ojuelegba?) in the famous MoDogg studio. However, Wizkid’s ascension from an upcoming artiste to arguably Africa’s best exploit to the world is extraordinary yet surprising. Wizkid has broken and set new records in the industry. He’s the perfect example to follow. Virtually

PREMIER LEAGUE: CHELSEA VS MANCHESTER CITY ON SATURDAY AT STAMFORD BRIDGE, 5:30pm

PREDICT HERE C helsea face the sternest test of their Premier League title credentials on Saturday as free-scoring Manchester City come to town. The Blues were unable to break down a resolute Arsenal side at Stamford Bridge around two weeks ago but have scored 15 goals in the three games around the visit of the Gunners. Team News Eden Hazard  is likely to start after coming through Wednesday’s trip to Atletico Madrid unscathed.
