The Northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, the State Agriculture Ministry reported
a new variant of bird flu discovered in domesticated animals in on Monday.
"This discovery shows how dynamic the bird flu is,'' said state Agriculture Minister Robert Habeck. "The virus is still present and is changing.''
The new version has been given the subtype categorisation H5N5.
Researchers at the Friedrich-Loeffler Institute, which made the discovery, said treatment for the new subtype was the same as already being used to fight the H5N8 subtype, according to the ministry.
