NYSC ALLOWANCE SCANDAL, NYSC EX-DG, BRIG. JOHNSHON OLAWUNMI AND AGF, AHMED IDRIS FINGERED

Investigation reveals that the immediate past Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier- General Johnson Olawunmi and the Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris may not be unconnected with the epileptic payment and eventual non-payment of serving Corps members monthly allowance. It was gathered that the Ex-DG in collaboration with the AGF deliberately omit names of some Corps members while paying the monthly allowance which they
later transfer for their personal
aggrandizement.

Reports shows that many States round the federation have been receiving between 70 percent to 90 percent since the inception of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), a
financial policy implemented by the federal government of Nigeria on September 15, 2015 to consolidate all inflows from the country's ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) by way of deposit into commercial banks, traceable into a single account at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Allegations making rounds that the
Treasury Single Accounts is a machinery set to defraud taxpayers may be true at last as activities surrounding the epileptic payment of Corps members monthly allowance
around has confirmed it. The investigation was launched sequel to series of complaints by immediate past 2015 Batch 'A' Corps members and serving batch 'B' Corps members on various social media platforms.

According to a serving Corp member who pleaded anonymity, He fulfilled all appropriate clearance criteria but has not received his allowances for the past three months.
"I have written all appropriate letters as instructed. I have also confirmed my details. I don't know why the federal government is doing this to me. How do they expect me to go about my service to Nigeria without upkeep?" He said. One of the 2015 Batch 'A' Corp member that passed out last week Thursday April 14
in one of the northern states said that she is yet to receive her 2015 July allowance even though she wrote and rewrote the headquarters.

"The government should look into paying Corps members as at when due. Corpers have been serving this nation wholeheartedly. It will be very unpleasant that they do so on empty stomach" she added.
Many corpers have taken to various social media platforms to express their deep dissatisfaction with the NYSC 's former administration. They expressed that negligence on the part of the DG is criminally and should be investigated.

The Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum has petitioned the Presidency as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on this issue and the commission promised that they would commence investigation as
quickly as possible.

Editor's Note: We reached out to the alleged Ex- DG, Brigadier Johnson Olawunmi through his lines but we couldn't reach him. However when we sent sms' to all his lines
including the official ones we received a response redirecting us to the Defense Head Quarters, Abuja. We inquired for specifics of whom we should contact and their contact details however, we didn't receive any response afterwards.
