THE BEGINNING OF BWARI CRISIS

The youths of Bwari have protested against the illegal imposition of the Sarkin Bwari on the people without their consent by the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello.

This led the youths trooping out in their numbers to the Minister's office to make their demands known.
They were seen carrying placards with an inscription of "injustice to the people of Bwari.

The youths said Alhaji Awul Musa Ijakoro was appointed by the Minister against the peoples wish after his father's death.

When TM News spoke to one of the protesters, named Adamu Bashir, he lamented that a non-indigene was imposed on them to head the people.
His words "The FCT Minister has just done something bad to the entire citizens of Bwari and Abuja at large.

"Let me start by saying Bwari or Abuja doesn't have anything like Emir or Sarkin Bwari, what was given to Abuja at large was chiefdoms.

"Any coronation that has been done called Sarkin Bwari was without the consent of Bwari people, and Abuja people at large, therefore, we urge the Minister to reverse the action or else drastic measures will be employed.

Asked if Ijakoro was in line for the title since his father held it before he died, Bashir said "No he was not, he has no inheritance here, they are commoners, strangers in Bwari at large.

"Alhaji Awul Musa Ijakoro should succeeded his father is Niger State and not Abuja, so we urge the Minister to reverse his action."

Also, Speaking, another protester, Malam Shehu said, "Going back to how the father became the Sarkin Bwari, he came to this town as a tax collector, and later became a king, which led to a dispute, considering he was from Niger State from Ijakoro Village as the family name connotes, and after his death, the F.C.T Minister made his Son Sarkin Bwari as against the agreement to return the title of kingship to the rightful family as agreed" he said.

Speaking further, he said he and the youths of Bwari will not rest as they "won't allow a stranger from Niger State to rule them".

Meanwhile, the Minister is yet to address the protesters as at press time with no official statement released to that effect.
