Police trouble: Sergeant dies

LAGOS—A Police Sergeant, Jude Nwandudu, who slumped in a hotel in Iju area of Lagos State, weekend, has died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, where he was rushed to.
Preliminary investigation revealed that
the late Nwandudu, a father of four,
went to the hotel in the company of the
wife of an unnamed policeman, who
lives in the same barracks with him, to
unwind for the just-concluded Easter
celebrations.
However, tragedy struck when, after
relaxing with his lover, Nwandudu
slipped and fell in the bathroom while
having a shower. He hit his head on the
bath tub and collapsed. His lover raised
the alarm that attracted members of
staff of the hotel.
Report said Nwandudu, who was
attached to the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad, SARS, Ikeja, was rushed to a
nearby hospital, from where he was
transferred to LUTH, where he died.
His lover, as gathered, had been invited
for questioning but was later released.
Widow's a Sergeant, too
Meanwhile, hell was said to have been
let loose as the deceased's widow, also a
Police Sergeant, insisted that her late
husband's lover be held responsible for
his death.
The latter's visibly angry husband, as
gathered, had also asked her to pack out
of his house for bringing shame to the
family.
A neighbour, who spoke on condition of
anonymity, said: "Nwandudu was
recently transferred from Kogi State
Police Command to SARS. It is
unfortunate he died."
There were rumours
It was also gathered that there were
rumours earlier about a clandestine
relationship between the deceased and
the neighbour's wife.
However, they both denied it. It almost
resulted into a fight between the
woman's husband, who is a Corporal,
and the deceased.
Some people even advised the Corporal
to report the matter to the Provost since
the deceased was senior to him in rank.
A neighbour said: "Now that he is dead,
some people are attributing it to magun
(charm). The Corporal has since chased
his wife away."
Contacted, Lagos State Police Public
Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, a
Superintendent, promised to get back to
this reporter. But at press time, she was
yet to get in touch.

EMIR OF KASTINA TELLS PRESIDENT BUHARI TO SIGN PEACE CORPS BILL

The Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman, has declared support for the Peace Corps bill passed by the National Assembly. The bill, which seeks to turn the Peace Corps, a non-government organisation, into a government paramilitary agency, has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians. Proponents see it as an avenue to create jobs for thousands of youth while critics describe as a duplication of functions already being performed by existing agencies and creation of another bureaucracy at a time the country is finding it difficult to pay workers' salaries. The bill was opposed by existing military and security institutions in Nigeria and the Peace Corps leader Dickson Akoh is currently being prosecuted for alleged fraud. Apart from lawmakers, the bill is also supported by some prominent Nigerians including the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, who also asked Mr. Buhari to sign to it. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Katsina emir made a similar call on the president on Thursda...

CBN Says It Can’t Reverse The Ban On ATM Card Use Abroad

The decision of Deposit Money Banks, DMBs, to place a restriction on the use of ATM cards abroad by bank customers is due to scarcity of foreign exchange, the CBN has said. The CBN said although it sympathizes with Nigerians for the sufferings they are experiencing in carrying out transactions abroad, it can't reverse the decision of DMBs and the CBN is in support of it as it would assist in reducing the pressure on the Naira. The Director, Monetary Policy Department, CBN, Mr. Moses Tule, explained that the restriction might continue until Nigeria could increase its foreign exchange earnings. He said if banks had not taken the decision to restrict the use of the ATM cards abroad, some of them would current be experiencing challenges meeting the overseas demand of their customers.May GOD help Us..
