The Supreme Court has dismissed the false assets declaration case against Dr. Bukola Saraki, Senate President, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
On Friday, the court, led by Justice Dattijo Muhammad, unanimously dismissed the case against the Senate President, saying that evidence presented by the prosecution is hearsay.
The CCT had earlier terminated the trial in June 2017 by dismissing the entire 18 counts preferred against Saraki, but the Court of Appeal restored three of the counts. Saraki then appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal.
He said that the Court of Appeal was wrong to have restored three out the 18 counts earlier dismissed by the CCT when it agreed that the evidence led by the prosecution was hearsay, but went ahead to isolate three of the counts as having been proven.
