This was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.
Mrs Ahmad is expected to resume immediately her appointment is confirmed by the Senate, replacing a CBN governor who retired earlier this year.
The President who has forwarded her name to the Senate called for speedy completion of the confirmation process.
"In accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007, President Buhari urged the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to consider the expeditious confirmation of Mrs Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately," the statement read in part.
Mrs Ahmad is expected to replace Dr Sarah Alade who was the CBN's Deputy Governor (Economic Policy) for 10 years.
Dr Alade, who resigned in March 2017 after spending 23 years at the bank, was Acting CBN governor for more than three months before the appointment of current CBN Governor Mr Godwin Emefiele.
President Buhari has also written to the Senate, seeking the confirmation of the appointment of members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN.
"They are to replace four members, whose tenure expires at the end of this year," the statement said.
Those nominated named by the President to join the MPC are Professor Adeola Festus Adenikinju; Dr Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi; Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa and Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu.
After Senate clearance, the new members of the Monetary Policy Committee are to resume duties next January.
