Bayelsa Governorship Election: INEC Mobilises 8,000 Staff

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at least 8,000 ad hoc staff of the electoral body will be involved in the Bayelsa governorship election slated for Saturday, December 5.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Bayelsa state, Mr Baritor Kpagih made this known in an interview he had in the state capital, Yenagoa with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) today Saturday, November 5.
Kpagih stated that INEC's permanent staff will be fully involved in the election process.
The state REC said: "We will involve ad hoc staff, more than 8, 000 of them will be recruited; definitely in election period, most of our permanent staff are always involved.
"The ad hoc staff have been trained on what they should be doing while on duty; some of them were trained at the local government area headquarters.
"INEC in Bayelsa is working with the electoral guidelines and we will continue to do our best in ensuring that the governorship election in the state is succesful,''
One National Youth Service corps member who will particpate in the Bayelsa governorship election, Miss Chinelo Okafor said: "During the training we were taught so many things, I believe we are going to ensure the most credible and acceptable election.''
As exchange of words continues between the PDP and APC towards the December 5 polls, the APC in the state noted that the most worrisome mischief employed by the ruling PDP is exchanging the PVCs of the innocent rural dwellers for a paltry one thousand naira.

EMIR OF KASTINA TELLS PRESIDENT BUHARI TO SIGN PEACE CORPS BILL

Proponents see it as an avenue to create jobs for thousands of youth while critics describe as a duplication of functions already being performed by existing agencies and creation of another bureaucracy at a time the country is finding it difficult to pay workers' salaries. The bill was opposed by existing military and security institutions in Nigeria and the Peace Corps leader Dickson Akoh is currently being prosecuted for alleged fraud. Apart from lawmakers, the bill is also supported by some prominent Nigerians including the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, who also asked Mr. Buhari to sign to it. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Katsina emir made a similar call on the president on Thursda...
