Obasanjo Raises Alarm Over Increasing Poverty In Nigeria

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Federal, State and local governments "to do more in the area of employment" as too manyNigerians are suffering the consequences of poverty.Obasanjo warned that "if there is no job for the unemployed to feed themselves and also to contribute to the development of the country then, we will all be sitting on gun powder."Speaking very frankly, Obasanjo insisted:"If University education was not for development then, it was not serving any useful purpose, insisting that "It must be for development, personal, local, national and even global and that is very important."The former President who spoke at the 10th anniversary and 6th and 7th convocation ceremonies of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.He stated that education should be a meal ticketfor anybody that has it, adding that it is also a means for one to break the poverty circle.Obasanjo advised "I believe in lifelong education. Nobody should stop learning until he or she dies."

The Cross River State Police Command has expressed concern over the high rate of proliferation of arms and light weapons among young youths, with a call on parents to be vigilant about the activities of their wards both within and outside their immediate environment. UNILORIN PRODUCES 89 FIRST CLASS GRADUATES

Prof. AbduGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, said on Friday that the institution had produced a total of 89 first class graduates for the 2016/2017 academic session.  The Vice-Chancellor made this disclosure in Ilorin on the occasion of a handover and valedictory press conference,  which signaled the commencement of the 33rd convocation ceremonies of the university. In his address entitled: “You are great”, the VC said that the university was thriving academically, going by the quality and quantity of research works embarked upon by lecturers. He gave a breakdown of the graduating students thus: 89 First Class Division, 1,932 Second Class Upper Division and 3,727 Second Class Lower Division.
